Dopo aver finito il suo iter nella scuola D'arte, Ian Wright è emerso in un panorama in cui musica e moda avevano la necessità di stare al passo con i cambiamenti degli anni settanta e ottanta. Dal suo primo lavoro commissionato, una cover per Undertones - Teenage Kicks per poi passare a cover settimanali per il New Musical Express magazine o a installazioni per Issey Miyake, Wright ha sempre attirato l'attenzione per la sua capacità e il suo talento innovativo. Wright è però conosciuto e famoso per il suo utilizzo dei più svariati materiali per produrre opere d'arte, tra cui possiamo ricordare il ritratto di Angela Davis, interamente realizzato con l'utilizzo di 1000 Mascara, attualmente esposto al British Museum. After haphazardly making his way through art school, Ian Wright emerged at a time when music and fashion needed to be blended with the changing styles of the late seventies and early eighties. From his first commissioned job, the record cover for the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks”, through weekly covers for New Musical Express magazine to an installation for Issey Miyake, Wright’s innovation in illustration has attracted attention. Wright is perhaps most known for his use of varying materials. His playful use of materials have also included the use of 1000 mascara brushes for a portrait of Angela Davis, a US Civil Rights figurehead, as well as a portrait made of reflective dots for the British Museum.
