L’apparenza non inganna: volumi che si incastrano in un perfetto gioco di design fuori, soluzioni e proposte d’arredo di altissimo design dentro.
È la nuova e straordinaria sede per la Home Collection dell’azienda svizzera Vitra, esempio di come il concetto di costruzione “impilata”, spesso inflazionato, possa essere invece reinterpretato in modo nuovo e interessante. A farlo ci hanno pensato i due famosi architetti elvetici, Jacques Herzog e Pierre de Meuron, che hanno dato forma nel distretto di Weil am Rhein, alle porte di Basilea, a un edificio decisamente spettacolare.
Orientata verso un pubblico esigente e attento, Vitra Haus, che si sviluppa su 5 piani e si compone di 12 casette separate, è una struttura grandiosa e intima al tempo stesso.
Di grande impatto visivo, oltre all’originale scala a chiocciola, sono sicuramente le ampie vetrate valorizzate dagli interni bianchissimi.
Dopo il Vitra Design Museum di Frank Ghery e il Centro per le Conferenze di Tadao Ando, Vitra Haus rappresenta l’ultima espressione della continua espansione del Vitra Campus, nato inizialmente solo come parco industriale.
Vitra Huas è un mondo segreto dove l’originalità è decisamente di casa.

Vitra Haus, the new home of Vitra's Home Collection, has been covered widely by design media, and not in vain. It is a beautiful example of Jacques Herzog's and Pierre de Meuron's ability to take the ubiquitous stacked-houses concept and still make it look new, interesting and inviting.
Reaching five storeys in height and containing 12 separate houses, Vitra House is geared toward the general public, design-aware consumers who will appreciate the building as well as the Vitra products inside. The entire contraption appears both grandiose and intimate at the same time, with the gray exterior disguising the disheveled heap within the site, while the open glass-walled ends and stark, white interiors facilitate the presentation of residential-scale displays.
Vitra House is the latest addition to the ever-expanding Vitra Campus that started as an industrial park with the manufacturing facilities. Now the Vitra Design Museum--Frank Gehry's first European building opened in 1989 -- the Conference Pavilion by Tadao Ando (1993) and the Fire Station by Zaha Hadid (1993) already provide magnificent visual attraction. Vitra Haus and a new circular manufacturing facility by Kazuyo Sejima/SANAA are this year's entrants to the site.

I did visit this museum yrdetesay and I definitly recommend it!!!! The new construction from Herzog & De Meuron is amaising! You feel completely in ecstasy and calm down at the same time. Inside you feel reallly at home and you can try every chair and sofa. You could stay the entire day sleeping in one of Charles & Ray Eames easy chair, or booking on the terrasse or studying on the Bourroulec desk...just great to feel free in this world of creation and contemporary design!Aline - cityisalive.blogspot.com |
