Lo Standard New York, il più giovane della collezione di hotel di André Balazs, inaugurato alla fine del 2008, ha scosso la scena degli hotel nella grande mela fin dal primo giorno di apertura. Il "King Standard", come viene chiamato dal quotidiano New York Daily News, è un delicato colosso che sta a cavallo della High Line, un parco elevato nuovo di zecca che si erige a ovest di Manhattan. 

Il monolito di cemento e vetro,il primo progetto di hotel costruito dall'inizio alla fine di André Balazs, richiama quelle ironiche strutture newyorkesi come la Casa Lever e il palazzo delle Nazioni Unite, con un'interpretazione della decadenza contemporanea. Situato all'interno del Meatpacking District a Manhattan, ora uno dei luoghi più ricercati della città, lo Standard è il cuore e l'anima del prodigioso mondo dell'arte, della moda e dello spettacolo newyorkese. La vista panoramica dell'hotel che comprende il fiume Hudson e il magnifico profilo di Manhattan abbellisce ognuna delle 337 stanze distribuite nei 18 piani con un particolare senso di privilegio. Progettato da Todd Schliemann di Polshek Partnership Architects con decorazioni del designer hollywoodiano Shawn Hausman e dello studio di design newyorkese Roman and Williams, l'hotel è un ammaliante omaggio al classico stile newyorkese della Lever House e del palazzo delle Nazioni Unite. Balazs ne descrive gli interni come un viaggio ascendente verso la modernità. Il piano terra è il più antico, risalente ai primi anni del ventesimo secolo, proprio nel periodo di costruzione della High Line mentre gli altri piani dell'hotel variano da influenze di metà Novecento. Tutte le 337 stanze dell'hotel sono dotate di una vista mozzafiato sul fiume Hudson e sul meraviglioso panorama urbano che circonda l'elegante monolite.

The Standard, New York, the youngest of André Balazs’ Standard hotels collection, opened in late 2008 and has since taken the New York City hotel scene by storm. The “King Standard”, as the New York Daily News calls it, is a delicate colossus straddling the High Line, a brand new elevated park, which runs up Manhattan’s West Side. The glass and concrete monolith was André Balazs’ first hotel project built from the ground up and recalls such iconic New York structures as the Lever House and the United Nations, with a twist of contemporary decadence. Situated inside Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, now one of the city’s most sought after plots, The Standard is the new heart and soul of the prodigious New York fashion, art and media worlds. The hotel’s panoramic views scaling the Hudson River and Manhattan’s magnificent skyline grace each of the 337 guestrooms on 18 floors with a sense of particular privilege. Designed by Todd Schliemann of Polshek Partnership Architects with décor by Hollywood set designer Shawn Hausman and the New York-based design firm, Roman and Williams, the hotel is a vamped up homage to such New York style classics as the Lever House and the main United Nations building. Balazs describes the interiors as an upward journey through modernity. The street level floor is the earliest, relating to the early twentieth century era in which the High Line was constructed. The hotel floors range between mid-century influences. Each of the hotel’s 337 guestrooms and suites are endowed with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the gorgeous cityscape that surrounds the elegant monolith.
